10/20 - 27/2022 - Demopolis to Mobile Bay & Orange Beach (quick trip home)

Thurs, 10/20/22 – Kingfisher Marina to Bobby’s Fish Camp (mm119) (84.3nm) On Wednesday evening, we planned to leave at first light with Redemption, Bella Rumore and Breakaway (Beneteau 49) to lock down (#11) Demopolis Lock (mm213). Because of the 30-degree temps overnight, the whole area was blanketed with a thick fog, so we waited until 8:30 before dropping 40’ along with a tow (without a load). Our 4-party flotilla had similar destinations but varying cruise speeds: True to its name, Breakaway put the throttle down and cruised at about 15mph all day.  Bella Rumore liked about 10mph, Port-a-gee fluctuated between 8 – 12, and Redemption held steady at 9. Foggy departure from Demopolis Bella Rumore chose an anchorage around mm112, the rest of us tied up at the famous Bobby’s Fish Camp.  It's nothing special, but it's a Looper Must - and they have fuel and power.  We were also reunited with Riverbend I'm beginning to learn Tow Boat Captain lingo - a load of "pig iron&qu

10/9 - 19/2022 - Pickwick to Demopolis (Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway)

Sun, Oct. 9 - Aqua Yacht to Five Finger Anchorage (mm414) (31.3nm) .  With our tiny crockpot stuffed with beef stew fixins', we departed Aqua Yacht at kickoff of the Bears/Vikings game. Smelling dinner slow cooking, listening to the Bears game and taking in the fall colors - we have to pause and be grateful for the life we're living.  Five Finger anchorage is aptly named, as it has 5 distinct lobes of untouched shoreline.  About 200 yards off the channel, we saw the crew of FJAKA tucked into a pocket on our port side.  Eddie radioed some instructions, and we found a great spot to drop our anchor behind them.  The Vikings bested the Bears and the crock was beckoning our olfactory receptors!  We had a lovely dinner while taking in the gorgeous view.                                                                  Mon, Oct. 10 - Five Fingers Anchorage - Eddie and Eileen dinghied to shore for their pup to "do his Biznez" and then pulled anchor to find a new view for the

10/1 - 10/8/22 Mini-Side Trip to Florence, AL / Rest before Tombigbee

10/1 - 10/3 - Dry Creek to Florence Harbor Marina (mm256), (39.8nm).  We departed Dry Creek around 10:00 a.m. and headed upstream toward Florence, AL.  This is the 3rd time we've been on Pickwick Lake.  On the other 2 trips we discussed a stopover in Florence, Albama, but for various reasons had to forego it.  Well, we finally made it! As we approached the marina, we noticed boats anchored with a soundstage in the background.  A closer look revealed Jason Isbell's ShoalsFest immediately adjacent to the marina.  Whoo Hoo, free concert!  Well, not really, turns out that despite our close proximity, the acoustics were pointed towards the paying customers in front of the stage, not the freeloaders in the marina behind! Big shout out to Kyle, the Dockmaster at Florence Harbor Marina, from my first call to inquire about a slip, to his help securing us in said slip, he could not have been any nicer/accommodating.  The marina is showing its age, and Kyle explained that they try to make

9/21 - 9/30/22 Green Turtle Bay to Pickwick Lake

Wed, Sept 21  - After a nice trip home, we began our 300-mile drive back to Green Turtle Bay.  Incidentally, this same trip took 12 days by boat! We arrived at GTB late afternoon, and moved back onto Port-A-Gee in 100-degree temps.  Our replacement   Microwave fit like a glove!  Sometimes the Boat Gods smile upon us.  Someone posted this meme - it's both funny AND KNOT!!! We were excited to see  Rick & Christy's (Inked Mermaid) new Endeavor docked next to us!  It was great catching up with them.  They just finished their 3rd Loop - Platinum Loopers - and we appreciate their knowledge of do's and don'ts along the way.  Lots of Loopers at GTB: After our race to complete the Mississippi River leg, we have been savoring our time on Kentucky and Pickwick Lakes.   We’ve spent a lot of time on these lakes the past couple of years, and we just love it.  Many times, we've commented, "I could live here".    KY Lake is a manmade (TVA) reservoir with over 2,000
